O'Malley Outlines List of Cuts, If Budget Fails
posted 3:55 pm Tue October 23, 2007 - Annapolis, Md.
Governor Martin O'Malley on Tuesday outlined a long list of budget cuts that will be needed if his proposals to handle a $1.7 billion budget defict fail. Without finding ways to fill the hole, O'Malley says $850 million in cuts would be needed in local jurisdictions, and an additional $800 million in reductions would be required for state agencies and programs.
The governor says cuts would affect a wide range of areas, including education, health and public safety.
But Republicans say the governor is just trying to scare people into accepting his proposals. Republican Senator E.J. Pipkin says halloween has come early to Annapolis.
